Noted For: major leaguer; outfielder/first baseman, Cincinnati Reds (1956-65), Baltimore Orioles (1966-71), and four other teams (1972-76). NL Rookie of the Year (1956), NL Most Valuable Player (1961), AL Most Valuable Player (1966), inducted into the Hall of Fame (1982). Managed four teams (1975-77, 1981-84, 1988-91, 2002-06); was the first black manager of a major-league baseball team.
