Full name: Rodney Glen King
Noted For: victim of a videotaped beating involving seven Los Angeles police officers on 3 March 1991. Four officers were tried; three were acquitted and the jury failed to reach a verdict on the fourth. Their acquitals on 29 April 1992 prompted a riot in which 54 people died. Two officers were subsequently found guilty of civil rights violations in federal court, and King was paid $3.8 million by the city of Los Angeles.
